Pachino ( Italian: Pachino ) is a commune in Italy , located in the Sicily region, subordinated to the administrative center of Syracuse . The name came from a combination of two Latin words: Bacchus - the Roman god of winemaking, and foreign - a variety of cheap Italian wine. The city was originally called Bakhino, which eventually transformed into Pachino, when Italian was adopted as the main language in Sicily.

Economics
Pakino is essentially a city whose main economic component is agriculture. Initially, cotton was cultivated here, but since the 19th century, a winemaking culture has become widespread. Pachino gradually increased wine exports to the markets of northern Italy and France. In 1970, winemaking in this commune underwent a systemic crisis, as a result of which many producers of vines switched to growing vegetables and fruits, which today make up the majority of products. This market produces a large turnover of goods and employs more than 4,000 residents from the surrounding area.
