Huber, Thomas

Thomas Huber ( German: Thomas Huber ; born 1955 , Zurich ) is a contemporary Swiss artist.

Life and work

Thomas Huber studied painting in 1977 - 1978 at the Basel School of Applied Arts, in 1979 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London , in 1980 - 1983 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf .

In 1987, the artist was awarded the Rheinbrucke Prize of the city of Basel , ( Switzerland ), in 1993 - the Zurich Arts Prize, in 1995 - the Art Prize of the State of Lower Saxony , ( Germany ). In 2000 - 2002, Thomas Huber - Chairman of the Union of German Artists.

In his works, T. Huber conducts bold experiments with internal space, takes the viewer to places where our spatial reality is questioned. At the center of his works is the question of artistic composition, which is decided not only by the author himself, but also by an outside observer. The artist himself expressed his work as follows: “ My paintings show certain premises, spaces. They can be seen but, as if closed by transparent glass, they are unattainable. A picture is an unfulfilled promise, it is a distressed, tragic symbol. If I had the opportunity to enter the world of my canvas - could I find a place there? ".

A large exhibition of works by T. Huber was organized from January 17 to April 19, 2009 at the Tübingen Museum of Art, ( Germany ).
