Romanovich, Apollonius Pavlovich

Apollonius Pavlovich Romanovich (1858-1899) - chief editor of the newspaper Turkestan Vedomosti

Born in 1857. Having been educated in the Naval Cadet Corps , he was appointed midshipman to be assigned to the Aralsk Naval Flotilla, commanded the Syrdarya military steamboat and Obruchev steam boat, and took part in the expedition of Captain Bryullov, who was studying the Aral Sea . Commanding the Oprichnik schooner , he made valuable research on the Amu Darya channel between Chardzhuy and the strengthening of Kerki .

He began his journalistic career while still an officer, sending correspondence to the Kronstadt Bulletin and the Maritime Digest . In 1892 he retired, settled in Tashkent and headed the Turkestan Vedomosti . Here he tried to contribute to the development and prosperity of the Turkestan region through front-page articles and editorial notes. He was not alien to the questions of the local economic situation, to which he devoted many articles.

He died in Tashkent on December 19, 1899.
