Boris Zinovievich Falikov (born September 24, 1947, Kholmsk , Sakhalin Oblast [1] ) is a Soviet and Russian historian of religion and a publicist , a specialist in the field of new religious movements . Candidate of historical sciences [2] , associate professor of the Center for the Study of Religions of the Russian State Humanitarian University (RSUH) [2] . The younger brother of the poet and prose writer I.Z. Falikov .

Biography
Born September 24, 1947 in the city of Kholmsk, Sakhalin Oblast. The Falikovs came to Sakhalin from Vladivostok : the head of the family was sent as deputy director to the Sakhalin Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography , where the director was Japanese. Father soon became the director of the institute, but already in 1949 the Falikovs returned to the mainland [1] .
He graduated from the faculty of foreign languages of the Saratov Pedagogical Institute [3] . Then he entered the graduate school of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences [3] , where in 1985, under the supervision of D. E. Furman, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic: “Socio-political aspects of some religious movements in the USA (Hinduism and Buddhism) ”(specialty 07.00.03 -“ General History ”) [4] . He worked in the department of comparative cultural studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences , where he studied the phenomenon of the spread of Hinduism and Buddhism in the West [5] .
In the early 1990s, he lectured at Lewis and Clark College , Georgetown University and Kansas University [5] .
In 1997-1998, he served as an expert of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on religious freedom [5] .
Since 1999 - Associate Professor of the Russian State Humanitarian University (RSUH) [5] . He teaches at the Center for the Study of Religions of the Russian State Humanitarian University (gives a course of lectures on the subject "Modern unconventional teachings and cults") [6] . Until 2012, he headed the international department in the newspaper "Culture" [5] . The author of five monographs [6] : “Religion in the Political Life of the USA” (1985), “Neo-Hinduism and Western Culture” (1994), “Christianity and Other Religions” (1999), “Cults and Culture: from Helena Blavatsky to Ron Hubbard” (2007), “Value of Quality. Occultism, religions of the East and the art of the twentieth century "(2017).
In 2000-2002 he was the release editor of the portal “ World of Religions ” [5] . Falikov’s journalistic articles on religion and culture were published in the magazines Continent , Znamya , Novy Mir , Novoye Vremya , Itogi , The Daily Journal , Profile , Volga , and Russian Thought newspapers "," Nezavisimaya Gazeta "," Izvestia "," Vremya Novostei "," Culture "," Moscow News "and the Internet publications" Gazeta.Ru "," Grani.ru "," GlobalRus.ru "," World of Religions " , " Russian Journal " [5] .
