After a ten-year hiatus, he returned to poetry in 1999. He was published in the magazines Arion , Air , Khreschatyk, Futurum Art, as well as on the Internet, and released a new book, The Canvas (2005). According to the poet and critic Boris Kolymagin, Asinovsky continues the tradition of Heinrich Sapgir in modern Russian poetry:
The tradition of “Psalms” in modern Russian poetry was continued by Oleg Asinovsky. His poetic walk also strives for "poetry." His speech, in order to avoid emasculation, also actively uses the game, unexpected semantic twists. And, like Sapgir in Psalms, Asinovsky actively uses the resource of metaphysics to create organic writing. Actually, all the latest works of the poet are connected with the book of books - with the Bible. He not only writes on biblical motives, but also creates a peculiar commentary on individual biblical books.
