Geography
Most of Friesland is located on the mainland, in addition, the province includes a number of West Frisian islands , including Vlieland , Terskhelling , Ameland and Schirmonnikoog , which are connected to the mainland by ferry.
Friesland, including the waters (see the map in the information card of the administrative unit), is the largest Dutch province - 5748.74 km²; This is the third largest province in terms of land area - 3,341.70 km².
The highest point is located at an altitude of 45 m above sea level on the island of Vlieland.
The province has four national parks:
- Ornithological park Schiermonnikog on the island of the same name
- De-Alde-Feanen in the center of the province
- Lauversmeer on the border with the province of Groningen ,
- Drents-Frisse Wold on the border with the province of Drenthe .
