Vern Schuppan replaced in the BRM Rhine Wisell , who injured his hand in a race in Oulton Park . After recovering, Carlos Roiteman returned to Brabham . Tecno made its debut in the championship with Nanni Gully at the wheel.
Qualification was won for the second time in a row by Emerson Fittipaldi , followed by Clay Regazzoni and Denny Hume . At the start, Regazzoni went around the Brazilian and held the lead for eight laps, after which Fittipaldi overtook the Swiss and regained first place. On the first laps there was a clash between Peter Revson and Andrea de Adamic , which did not end in a gathering. At lap 31, François Sever came in second place, and Regazzoni remained third until lap 58 when a clash with Nanni Galli took him out of the fight. Fittipaldi was in the lead for most of the distance and won a second victory of the season.
