Content
Geography
It is located on the left bank of the Ural River , 16 km southwest of the Burannaya railway station, 256 km southwest of Chelyabinsk (278 km by road), 14 km south of Magnitogorsk .
History
It was founded in 1902 by Cossack immigrants from the village of Nizhneozernaya of the Orenburg province . The new settlement was named in honor of the eminent countryman Pavel Osipovich Agapov (decree of the military economic board of the Orenburg Cossack army of November 19, 1904). P.O. Agapov, a native of the village of Nizhneozernaya, graduated from the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy (1877), the Academy of the General Staff (1891). Lieutenant Colonel (1896 g). Since 1898, he served as head of the department of the Main Directorate of Cossack Troops. Colonel (1900 g). With the highest permission, P.O. Agapov was presented with the title of honorary Cossack of the village of Nizhnoyozyornaya (1902). Head of the Cossack Department of the General Staff (1910-1917).
