Career

Roy Saunders began his career at the Hull City Amateur Club. In May 1948, George Kau , the then Liverpool coach, invited a young football player to his place. Saunders' debut at the base of the Reds took place only 5 years later, on January 10, 1953 in a match for the FA Cup with Gatershead , in which Liverpool lost 0: 1. In the championship of England, Saunders made his debut a month later, on February 7 against Middlesbrough . In the 1952/53 season, Saunders appeared on the field 15 times, the next year he spent 20 matches, and after Liverpool relegated from the English Premier League, Saunders became a base player, having played 32 matches. In the 1955/56 season, he played 42 matches and scored his only goal with the Reds, on August 25, 1956 in the match for the League Cup against the Bury goal in the 17th minute of the game, making the score 2-0 in favor of Liverpool . The following season, Saunders played 28 matches; gradually began to lose its place at the base of Liverpool. In the 1957/58 season, Saunders entered the field only in January against Southend United , only played 5 matches, the next year Saunders played one less game and decided to leave Liverpool. Total spent in the “red" 146 matches. Saunders moved to the Swansea Town club, for which he played 94 matches, including the winning final of the Wales Cup in 1961. He completed his career Saunders in the amateur club " Amanford Town ".

The son of Roy Saunders Dean was also a professional footballer, played for many clubs, including the Reds and the Wales team .

Roy Saunders died on January 29, 2009 after a long illness at the age of 78 [2] .
