Heraclea Linkestis or Heraclea Lincestis ( Greek Ἡράκλεια Λυγκηστίς or Ἡράκλεια Λύγκου ) is an ancient Greek city located in Northern Macedonia near the city of Bitola .

History
The city is named after the mythological hero Heracles and was founded by Philip of Macedon after the annexation of the surrounding Linkestida to his kingdom . Subsequently, it acquired important strategic importance due to its location on the Egnatius Road . The city was abandoned after the Slavicization of the territory of present-day Northern Macedonia in the VI century BC. e.
