History
The club was created by a group of students from the National Capital College ( Spanish: Colegio Nacional de la Capital ) on June 5, 1904 . The original name - Nacional Football Club , as well as the colors and emblem of the team were similar to the corresponding attributes of the Uruguayan Nacional .
Especially in the amateur era, as well as in the first professional years, Nacional was one of the most successful clubs in the country. In the second half of the XX century, the team somewhat lost their positions, often flying to the Second Division of the national championship. After winning it in 2003, Nacional is once again in the elite of Paraguayan football. At the end of the 2008 season , the team made it to the Libertadores Cup , and in 2009 the club, under the leadership of former legendary football player Ever Hugo Almeida, won his seventh league title, the first time since 1946 .
In 2014, Nacional became the second Paraguayan team, after Olimpia to reach the finals of the international tournament, the Libertadores Cup , where, after two meetings, lost to the Argentinean San Lorenzo de Almagro .
The team is nicknamed “La Academia” due to the fact that it has brought up a number of famous football players, the greatest of which is the idol for fans to this day Arsenio Eriko .
