Geography
The city is located in the basin of Debar Field , on the banks of the artificial Lake Debar , between the Black Drin rivers and its tributary Radika , near the border with Albania . The city is surrounded by mountains Deshat , Stogovo and Yablanitsa , located at an altitude of 625 m above sea level.
History
First mentioned on the map of Ptolemy under the name Deborus.
John Debar (1018-1037) was born in the city - the first head of the Ohrid Archbishopric .
The population of Debar decreased significantly after the First World War .
