Education and work

He graduated from the Higher School of Economics ( Khabarovsk ).

He began his career as a worker at the Novoshirokinsky mining and processing plant.

Since 1975 - correspondent, head of the economic department, executive secretary of the newspaper “Lenin's Way” in the Chernyshevsky District of the Chita Region . Since 1982 - deputy editor, then editor of the Daurskaya Nov newspaper. Since 1985 - editor of the regional youth newspaper "Komsomolets Transbaikalia". From 1991 to 1995, he was the editor of Narodnaya Gazeta in Chita .

Political Activities

In 1993, he was elected to the Federation Council of the first convocation, was a member of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial Reform. In 1995, he was elected a deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation, was a member of the deputy group "Russian Regions", a member of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial Reform. He dealt with the issues of the release of Russian prisoners of war in Chechnya, was among the participants in the release of the hostages of Budennovsk in June 1995. He is the author of the books Mission in Chechnya and I Choose Freedom.

In 2000, he ran for governor of the Chita region , took 4th place in the elections (less than 3.5% of the vote). He initiated the creation and was chairman of the Chita Committee for the Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression ( 1988 - 1996 ), chairman of the Chita Popular Front ( 1989 - 1991 ), co-chairman of the all-Russian movement " Democratic Russia ", chairman of the regional movement "Native Transbaikalia" and other socio-political and human rights organizations .
