Aquarium Content
The ability to constantly be in the water led to the popularity of this type of amphibian among aquarists, but these animals are extremely rare among Russian amateurs. Tritons sold in pet stores and markets under the guise of “ C. pyrrhogaster ” are actually C. orientalis .
Animals are very active, constantly in motion, but they do not touch aquarium fish.
Containment conditions: aquarium with soft and slightly acidic water. The level is from 10 to 50 cm, on the surface it is desirable to have a raft where animals will sometimes go. The recommended water temperature is not more than 25 degrees, although a short-term increase to 28-30 degrees is possible.
After artificial wintering (keeping for 2–3 months at a temperature of 6–10 degrees, animals can be placed in a planted aquarium for reproduction. After mating, the female lays eggs, which she secures with her back foot to the leaves of the plants, after which the parents are removed from the aquarium.
The water in the container with caviar should be fresh, preferably aeration (in nature, newts lay eggs in running water), a temperature of 18-20 degrees. After 1-2 weeks, larvae about 5 mm in size hatch from the eggs, which are recommended to be fed with small daphnia , and a little later with a cut tubule . After 4-5 weeks, the animals undergo metamorphosis, after which they are selected on land. After 2 months, they can return to the water again.
