Academy Award for Best Directing is the prestigious American Academy of Motion Picture Award, awarded annually to the best director . The nomination for the prize is carried out by the Directors Guild, and the winner is determined by all members of the Academy. Since 1929 , that is, from the first Oscars, the director received 81 statuettes. At the same time, two prizes were awarded at the first ceremony (for work in the genres of drama and comedy ), but from the next year this division was eliminated. At the 34th (1962) and 80th (2008) ceremonies, the award was presented to two directors. Most often, the director who received the award for the best film receives this award.
