Background
In 461 BC e. Cimon was expelled from Athens for ten years.
After the defeat of the Athenians in Egypt, Cimon returned to Athens. He concluded a truce with Sparta , with whom the Athenians also fought , and threw all his strength into the fight against the Persians. In 450 BC e. A kimon with a fleet of 200 ships sailed for a second trip to Egypt and Cyprus . The king of the inhabitants of the Nile Delta Amirtei , who fought with Persia , asked Cimon for help, and he sent him 60 ships. The remaining ships went to besiege Kitiy.
Siege
During the siege of Kitia, Cimon died - either from illness or from a wound in battle. Before his death, he ordered his associates to immediately retreat, hiding that he had died.
