History
The group actually represents the solo work of Marcus Tyummers (Vratyas Vakyas) [1] , a man with an unusual fate. A German by birth, he lived most of his life in Iceland . Then he moved to Germany , now lives in Dusseldorf , where he has his own recording studio Skaldik Art , specializing in supporting young pagan and folk metal bands.
Iceland is the most preserved ancient northern culture country among all the Scandinavian ones. It is from German and Scandinavian folklore that Vratyas draws its inspiration. As he himself says, “the group’s lyrics are based on Ásatrú - faith in Asov , and Vatan - based on Ásatrú a mixture of science , art and philosophy . The Viking theme is only the external side - the lyrics are filled with metaphors , and to understand them, reflection is needed. ”
Back in the late 80s, Vratyas began to write poetry on folklore themes and perform them in a more traditional folk style - with an acoustic guitar and clean vocals . “Remembering that time, I think that I was looking for a way of some new sacrifice to the Gods and Goddesses ... not blood , but my heart and soul , my emotions expressed in art, I sacrificed it. So, probably, it was not the time of the Vikings in itself that inspired me, but the Gods and Goddesses who ruled Midgard in ancient times and will rule forever! ” However, over time, the sound began to get heavier, and the vocals became half black . Already the first album acquired a corporate identity - cold epic music with texts on eddic themes - which only improved on the second album. Then a long break followed and relatively recently two new albums were released, which became less “percussive” and more melodic, including with almost purely acoustic compositions. Black vocals almost disappeared.
The group is often compared to Bathory , which is facilitated by the mono composition, but Vratias rejects this.
