Biography
Born in Yerevan . At the age of six, he moved to Kislovodsk . Military service, in his own words, took place in the infantry, near Kiev and in Hungary [1] . He decided to become a coach when he was 20 years old, at 25 years old he realized that as a football player he would not succeed [2] . After graduating from the Institute of Physical Education, a trainer began work. He worked in the Youth Sports School of Kislovodsk. One year he coached the team of the third league “Olympus” Kislovodsk [1] [2] [3] , then - the club “Free Labor” in the championship of the Stavropol Territory [4] .
In 1999-2009, he worked with women's teams, with which he achieved maximum success. Since 2002, he began working as a head coach in the Togliatti Lada , with which he ultimately achieved great achievements, having won the Russian Cup three times, as well as the 2004 Russian championship . Since 2007, he has been the head coach of Perm Zvezda-2005 , which, with his arrival, has become one of the leaders of women's football in Russia. With this team he won all Russian tournaments and reached the final of the 2009 UEFA Women's Cup , where Star 2005 lost to the German team Duisburg 2001 ”, Grigoryan was fired after losing in his first home game 0: 6 [5] .
Since 2009, he worked in FC Nizhny Novgorod as a coach, due to the lack of the necessary coaching license for Grigoryan [2] , the club’s president and head of the coaching council Viktor Zaydenberg [6] was officially the head coach, but he was actually responsible for the training process Grigoryan [ 7] . During Grigoryan’s work in Nizhny Novgorod, the team took the best in their history 3rd place in the championship of the First PFL Division of the 2010 season [8] (a year later this result was repeated under the leadership of Vladimir Kazakov ). In December 2010, he quit.
From January to July 2011 [9] - the head coach of the Khimki club.
From October 2011 to December 2012, he was the head coach of the Khabarovsk club SKA-Energia [10] . He resigned due to a conflict with the club’s management, caused by unsatisfactory team results in recent matches and dubious staffing decisions. Despite the good results achieved (3rd place in the FNL before the winter break), the resignation was accepted [11] .
From February to June 2013 he was the head coach of the club of the South zone of PFL Mashuk-KMV [12] .
On June 7, 2013, he headed Luch-Energiya [13] , who returned to the FNL after winning the PFL Vostok zone in the 2012–2013 season. In November 2013, the management of Luch extended the contract with Grigoryan under the 1 + 1 system [14] . In winter and spring of 2014, the Vladivostok team led by Alexander Grigoryan achieved a number of achievements: became the winner of the FNL Cup in 2014, defeating the Moscow Torpedo in the final, and reached the semifinal of the Russian Football Cup . On November 7, Grigoryan re-signed the contract [15] , but already on November 15 he announced the club’s financial problems [16] , and on December 1 he informed the Luch management about his desire to leave Vladivostok and move to the Tosno camp [17] . At the same time, Grigoryan violated his word given to the club’s trustee Viktor Milush, “to work out the entire 2014-2015 season and apply for the Premier League” [18] .
December 4, 2014 he headed the FNL club "Tosno" [19] . Under his leadership, the team took the last, 16th place in the FNL Cup 2015 , after which on February 28 Grigoryan resigned “by agreement of the parties due to mother’s illness” [20] .
For several months he was unemployed. After the end of the 2014/2015 season, he expressed a desire to return to Luch-Energy [21] . In July-August 2015 he was a consultant coach of the Uzbek “ Pakhtakor ” [22] , but on August 31, 2015 he returned to the Far East, with which his main successes in men's football were associated. Despite previous statements about a sense of revenge against the Khabarovsk club [23] , he again headed SKA-Energy [24] . In a guest match of the 14th round with Tomyu on October 5, 2015, he instructed team goalkeeper Yuri Dupin to join the attacks not in the last minutes, as is often the case with a losing team, but during the match [25] (including - in the first half [3] ).
In the 2015/16 season , SKA-Khabarovsk took only 14th place, but in the 2016/17 season it finished the autumn part of the championship at the “butt” 3rd place and was remembered for its resonant victory in the 1/16 Russian Football Cup over Moscow “ Spartacus " [26] .
In October 2015, after a home match against Volgar, which became the first victory after five consecutive defeats, Grigoryan sharply criticized the low attendance of the team’s home games, calling the fans whistling against SKA-Khabarovsk players “worms” [27] [28 ] [28 ] ] .
On January 5, 2017 he was appointed head coach of the Anzhi Premier League Premier League club [29] . On his appointment, he stated that “20 years had been waiting for this chance” [30] . Moving from Khabarovsk to Makhachkala , he did not even have time to say goodbye to the team [31] . After an unsuccessful start in the 2017/18 season - a victory and five defeats - he resigned, and did so on live television on the Match TV channel [32] .
On August 16, he headed the PFL Championship Club Moscow “ Ararat ”. The contract was designed for three years [33] , but on October 26, 2017 left the club [34] [35] . One of the likely reasons for this is an interview in which Grigoryan unexpectedly for the leadership announced the closure of "Ararat" [36] (later management called the head coach’s statement a joke [37] ). Also, the boorish way of the coach to communicate with the players was mentioned as the reason for dismissal [35] , however, the players of Ararat Igor Lebedenko and Alexei Rebko denied this information [38] .
On September 21, 2017, in response to insulting chants during his match between the Ararat and SKA-Khabarovsk Russian Football Cup match, Grigoryan showed the middle finger to the stands [39] . Through the match, the situation repeated itself, and Grigoryan addressed an insulting gesture to the fans of the Moscow Torpedo [40] . As a result, the specialist was disqualified for two calendar games of the Russian Football Championship and two games of the Russian Cup in football [41] .
On December 26, 2017, he again headed the FNL club Luch-Energia [42] , replacing the Slovak specialist Zolt Hornyak , who was dismissed by the new leadership of the club without explanation. The appointment of Grigoryan caused discontent of Vladivostok fans [27] , who, in particular, issued paraphernalia and stickers with offensive messages to the coach [28] .
On March 10, 2018, right after the goal scored in the end of the meeting with Orenburg, he ran onto the field and tried to run up to the Lucha fan sector, which provoked the coach throughout the meeting [43] .
On April 11, 2018, he announced insults and threats from the fans of Ray-Energy, calling their actions extremism [44] .
On April 15, during an away match in Voronezh against the local Fakel , one of the team's fans brought a live rooster to the stadium and threw it into the area of the bench on the 40th minute of the game. The action was covered in both Russian and foreign media, including the Washington Post and The New York Times [45] [46] [47] [48] . In response, Grigoryan said that he had already sent all the materials on this episode to the FSB with a demand to punish those responsible. He also said that the actions of the fans are the result of a “well-thought-out, planned and paid action” directed against him personally, moreover, for fans visiting the away games of the team, some ill-wishers of the specialist pay all expenses [49] .
Later, speaking to the press, Grigoryan repeatedly demanded that various authorities (the RFU, KDK, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB) deal with the current situation and punish fans who criticized his work at Luch-Energia as hard as possible. The representative of the RFU Ethics Committee Andrei Sozin said that the RFU is ready to provide the necessary assistance to a specialist, however, “a public organization cannot fit into the personal life of a trainer” [50] . By the decisions of the FTC in the matches with Yenisei and Kuban , the sectors of active support for fans of the Vladivostok team were closed, and a ban was imposed on fans to attend one home match conditionally.
On April 20, 2018, he was dismissed due to unsatisfactory results (only two wins in eight games) [51] . The representative of the club’s board, Dmitry Druyan, also noted that the results of Grigoryan’s work in Vladivostok were influenced by the tension associated with the coach’s protracted conflict with fans [51] . Subsequently, he stated that coming to Luch was a mistake, both on his own and on the part of the Luch leadership [52] .
Since November 2017, he has been one of the experts of the Rating Bookmakers company [53] [54] .
Match TV is regularly involved as an expert.
In April 2018, according to prosports.kz, the option of appointing Grigoryan to the post of head coach of Pavlodar “ Irtysh ” as a replacement for Gerard Nus , and according to some other media reports, even in winter, he could head the Karaganda Shakhtar [55] .
On August 15, 2018, it became known that Grigoryan was appointed head coach of the CSKA women's team [56] .
April 22 was appointed head coach of the championship leader of the FNL FC Tambov [57] . The cooperation agreement was signed before the end of the 2019/2020 season. [58] .
In the media sphere [59], thanks to his own interviews [2] [60] (especially after-match) and actions [61] [62] he was known as a shocking coach [63] [64] with sharp statements of an extravagant orientation [65] [66] and elements odious behavior [67] .
