History

The gun was developed in the late 1950s [2] at the Institute for the Study of Artillery ( Polish Zakład Broni Strzeleckiej Centralnego Badawczego Poligonu Artyleryjskiego ), which later became the Military Institute for Arms Technology ( Polish. Wojskowy Instytut Techniczny WZUUELJIA UZBROJENIA ). Originally had the name CZAK (abbreviated designation, consisting of the initial letters of the names of the creators of the pistol - officers of the Polish Army V. Chepukaitis, R. Zimny, M. Adamchik and S. Kochmarsky) [3] .

It was produced at an arms factory in Radom.

In 1971, the design of the trigger was amended [3] .

In 1972, it was decided to develop a new army pistol to replace the P-64 (which became the P-83) [3] .

Before the end of production in 1977, 190 thousand combat pistols were manufactured, and a number of training pistols were also made [3] .

In 1998, the Kiev company JV Schmeiser began developing its own traumatic pistol based on the Polish P-64G, which was supposed to be certified as a civilian self-defense weapon. December 15, 2000 the design was patented under the name AE 790 [4] .

Design

Automation gun works due to the release of a free shutter. The return spring is put on the barrel. The locking of the barrel is carried out by the mass of the casing shutter and the force of the return spring. Trigger trigger, double action. The gun has an indicator of the presence of a cartridge in the chamber (in the form of a rod protruding from the rear end of the shutter above the trigger if there is a cartridge in the barrel) and a non-automatic fuse that blocks the hammer and the shutter guard, as well as carries out the trigger trigger release [3] .

The main parts of the gun are made of milled steel, however, in order to reduce the weight of the weapon, many parts were made of aluminum alloy. With a sufficiently high quality of workmanship, the use of light alloys somewhat reduced the pistol's life and made the impact more tangible [5] .

Options and Modifications

  • training pistol R-64 - a model designed to teach disassembling and assembling weapons (firing a shot is not possible), to distinguish from military weapons, the inscription "painted on red with a bolt SZKOLNY " [3]
  • P-64G - gas gun chambered for 9 mm R.A., was produced in the early 1990s [3]
  • AE 790 - traumatic gun chambered for 9 mm R.A. based on the design of P-64G, the Schmeiser JV [3] is produced in several modifications and versions [6]

Operator countries

  •   Poland - in 1965 under the name 9 mm pistolet wz. 1964 ( P-64 ) was adopted by the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and special services of the NDP , from the 1990s it was allowed for use by private security companies [3] , as of 2014, the P-64 remained the main service pistol of the armed forces [7] , also used by the police (as of mid-2009, there were 81,340 units in the arsenal of the police) [8]
  •   USA [9] - since the early 1990s, a significant number of P-64 pistols were sold in the USA, where they were sold as civilian weapons [3] [10]
