The ministers for intra-German relations ( German Minister für innerdeutsche Beziehungen ) dealt with German issues during the existence of the two German states. In accordance with the Hallstein doctrine, West Germany did not consider East Germany as a separate state and did not want to build relations with the GDR through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In 1949, a special institution was created for these relations. Until October 1969, the department was called the "Ministry for General German Issues" , then - the " Ministry of Intra-German Relations ." After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the Ministry of Internal German Relations formally lasted until 1991, transferring its authority to the Ministry of the Interior.
