History

The club was founded on June 3, 1931 under the name "Slavija" and existed until 1941 . During World War II, the club temporarily ceased to exist and was reorganized under the name Tekstilac in 1945 . The club received the name “Varteks” in 1958 on the basis of the textile and clothing company, which was the main sponsor.

The club received its first success in 1938 , when it received the right to participate in the Premier League of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The biggest success in Socialist Yugoslavia was getting into the Yugoslav Cup in 1961 . Then Varteks lost the final game to Vardar ( Skopje ) from Macedonia .

Varteks has been a member of the Croatian National League since its inception, that is, since 1991 . The club has not yet managed to win the championship title, but regularly fall into the upper ranks of the table.

At the international level, the team attracted attention in 2001 , when Aston Villa was knocked out of the UEFA Cup .

Varteks is not a wealthy club, but the club is steadily ranking at the top of the standings. The driving force behind Vartex is youth training. Often, students of the club are sold to foreign clubs.
