Geography
The district is located in the southwestern part of the region, on the southwestern spurs of the Volga Upland , in the Khopersky low-elevated steppe region. The area of the district is 169,508 ha, which is 3.5% of the total area of the region. The length of the territory from north to south is 59 km, from west to east - 56 km. In the north it borders with Kamensky , in the west with Bekovsky , in the north-west with Belinsky , in the north-east with the Kolyshleysky regions of the region, and in the south - with the Saratov region .
History
Serdobsky district was formed on July 23, 1928 as part of the Balashov district of the Lower Volga region . It included most of the territory of the abolished Serdobsky district of the Saratov province .
From January 10, 1934, it was part of the Saratov Territory , and from December 5, 1936, it was part of the Saratov Region .
February 4, 1939 transferred to the newly formed Penza region .
On February 1, 1963, the city of Serdobsk was assigned to the category of cities of regional subordination, the territory of the abolished Bekovsky district was included in the Serdobsky district .
January 12, 1965 restored Bekovsky district .
On February 17, 2006 the district as a municipality received the status of a municipal district with a center in the city of Serdobsk , which formed a city settlement .

- Abolished settlements
In December 2015, the villages of Ivanovsky and Maisky of the Kirov Village Council were excluded from the accounting data of the administrative-territorial structure of the Penza region as settlements actually ceased to exist in which there are no officially registered residents [20] .
Local government
Local self-government in the Serdobsky district is regulated by the Charter of the Serdobsky district of the Penza region (adopted by Decision of the Assembly of Representatives of the Serdobsky District dated October 23, 2009 No. 771-63 / 2) [21] .
It follows from the Charter that local self-government in the Serdobsky district is a form of exercise by the people of their power, which ensures, within the limits established by the Constitution of the Russian Federation, federal laws, and in the cases established by federal laws, the laws of the Penza region, an independent and under their responsibility decision by the population of Serdobsky district directly and (or) through local authorities of Serdobsky district of local issues, based on the interests of the population of Serdobsky district om historical and other local traditions.
Economics
The economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing . The Southeast Railway (the Penza - Rtishchevo section) runs through the district.

- Karmanov, Ivan Petrovich (1892-1941) - Soviet military leader, major general ( 1940 ).
- Samsonov, Fedor Alexandrovich (1901-1980) - Soviet military commander, colonel general of artillery. Born in the village of Zelenovka.
- Sosedov, Lev Borisovich (1897-1989) - Soviet military leader, major general ( 1943 ).
