Biography

His first microminiature compositions were exhibited in 1947 at the National Museum of Yerevan . In total, on his account Kazaryan more than 1000 works. His micro-masterpieces were presented to Stalin , Khrushchev , Ho Chi Minh , Honecker , Rockefeller , Queen Elizabeth II of England and many others.

In 1977, his work was shown in the Armenian pavilion of the Soviet exhibition in Los Angeles (USA). American visitors called it the “Eighth Wonder of the World” (Los Angeles Times, November 21 1977).

Among the works of Kazaryan are a caravan of camels in the eye of a needle, a saxophonist figure on half poppy seeds, a khachkar and a face of Jesus on crumbs of metal, a bouquet of roses from fish scales, a butterfly on a cut hair. There are such funny works as David Copperfield on the tip of the hair, practicing on the horizontal bar, or playing with the cane of Charlie Chaplin . Some thumbnails can only be viewed with 5,000x optical zoom. Ten of the smallest compositions by Kazaryan are listed in the Guinness Book of Records . One of the best works of the master is considered to be a miniature "Savvy fleas playing ball."

At the request of the famous surgeon Svyatoslav Fedorov, Ghazaryan created the finest microneedles for stitching wounds during eye operations, and together with the ophthalmologist Yaroslav Fedorov, he came up with a special lens .

Interesting Facts

  • The rice kernel drying on the balcony, on which, upon order of the Louvre, Ghazaryan painted a copy of Aivazovsky ’s picture “The Ninth Wall” , was swallowed by a swollen dove. As a result, the fruit of three-month labor worth a million dollars was lost.
  • There were so many people who wished to attend the exhibition of Kazaryan’s works in St. Petersburg that they had to extend her work twice.
  • Once Khrushchev received a sewing needle as a gift from the Government of India with seven elephants engraved on it. Khrushchev liked the gift, but he was upset that there were no such craftsmen in the USSR . Soon after, the parcel left Yerevan for Delhi - Eduard Ghazaryan placed 300 elephants in the balance of one centimeter and inscribed: “Long live Soviet-Indian friendship!”
  • In order not to accidentally brush off the composition with his breath, Ghazaryan put on a gauze bandage during work.
