Bivalvulida

Bivalvulida is a squad of parasitic invertebrates from the Myxozoa group. They are characterized by bicuspid spores containing 1-2 or 4 polar capsules and 1 (rarely 2) amoeba-shaped embryo. Vegetative forms are diverse. Mainly cavity or tissue parasites of bony fish , less often other fish and aquatic vertebrates. Two species parasitize in trematodes .

Host circle and parasite localization

Bivalvulida in the course of its evolution first mastered marine fish, then switched to parasitization in freshwater. This distinguishes them from Multivalvulida , represented exclusively at sea. The vegetative forms of Bivalvulida have adapted to parasitization in the gall and bladders , ureters and urinary tubules. In fresh water reservoirs, the vegetative stages of some species were able to master other organs and tissues of fish. Growing in size, they take the form of motionless cysts.
