For the first time took part in the world championships in 1989. [3] Since then, she has participated in the Swiss team at all world championships with the exception of the World Championships in Kiev . Vroni’s uniqueness lies not only in the fact that she took part in 12 world championships . More impressive is the fact that at the age of 39 she was able to win a silver medal at the World Championships in the Czech Republic in 2008. [four]
Her first gold at the World Championships in 2001 was historic. It was the first championship in which gold medals were played in the sprint discipline. [5] Recall that until 2001, only two individual disciplines were played at the world championships - short and classical. [3]
A year later, she became the first in the sprint and at the European Championship. [6] Thus, she became the first woman who managed to win gold medals in the sprint at both the European and world championships.
For more than 10 years, she played for the Finnish club Turun Suunnistajat, [2] with whom she won the most prestigious Finnish torch in Venla ( fin. Venla ) in 2002. [7]
The 2010 World Cup was the last for König Salmi. In October 2010, she decided that she would not represent Switzerland at the 2011 World Championships in France and would go there exclusively as a spectator. Having completed her career as a top athlete, she returned to Switzerland. Prior to that, she almost always lived in Finland. At home, she works at the National Orienteering Training Center, where she supports various projects related to the preparation of the Swiss national team. [8] In particular, since the fall of 2011, has been Simona Niggley’s personal trainer. [9]
Wrony is married to Finnish orienteer Janni Salmi ( Fin. Janne Salmi ), mother of four children. [2]
