In 1747, in the village of Starye Paraty, a wooden church was built in the name of the holy great martyr Demetrius of Solunsky . In 1831, parishioners added another throne church to it in the name of the Holy Trinity . Subjected to numerous amendments, the wooden temple came into complete disrepair. By decree of the Spiritual Consistory of October 24, 1873 No. 5000, the old temple was destined for destruction, but only in 1877 it was demolished [3] ). The new temple was built 2 kilometers in the village of New Paraty. From here came the name - Old Paraty. The Mari name Cherkysola means "the village where the church is located." Old Paraty acquired the status of a village.
