Career

Club

Knavs began his career at Ljubljana Olimpia . As part of the capital's club, he twice won the championship of Slovenia . After spending 4 seasons for Olimpia, Alexander changed the Slovenian championship to the Austrian one and moved to Tyrol . After the season spent in the club, he made his debut in the Slovenian national team , and in 2000 he went with her to the European Championship . As part of the club, Alexander twice won the championships of Austria. All Knavs spent in “Tyrol” 4 seasons, having played 113 matches.

In 2001, he moved to the Kaiserslautern , which at that time was the middle class of the Bundesliga . Having played 64 matches in three seasons for the Kaiserslautern, Knavs moved to another Bundesliga club - Bochum , but Alexander spent only one season for the new club, in which Bochum lost his place in the Bundesliga.

In 2005, Knavs returned to the Austrian championship, moving to the Red Bull and becoming one of the club’s first acquisitions after its purchase by Red Bull GmbH . In the first season in Salzburg, Knavs played 28 matches and enjoyed great confidence with head coach Kurt Jara , but after losing his club and joining Giovanni Trappatoni, Alexander lost his place at the base and practically did not play in the next two seasons. In 2008, Knavs ended the contract, and the club decided not to renew it.

Team

Knavs made his debut for the Slovenian national team on February 5, 1998 in a match with the national team of Iceland . He spent 10 of 12 matches in the qualifying tournament for the 2000 European Championship . In the championship itself, he played 2 matches (full match with Norway and substitution in the match with Spain ).

Alexander played in 9 of 12 matches of the qualifying round for the 2002 World Cup and managed to score a goal against the Russian team . In the group round of the World Cup, he played two matches. Knavs also played for Slovenia in the qualifying round for the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship . In total, he spent 65 matches for the national team and scored 3 goals.
