He graduated from the Prague Conservatory . As a student, he participated in 1924 in the creation of the Czech Nonet , a unique chamber ensemble of nine performers, and later performed in it until 1963 , in critical situations, becoming the main driving force in the survival of the collective. As part of the ensemble, he was the first performer of many compositions, including the famous Second Nonet Bohuslav Martinou ( 1959 ).
In 1963 , in the wake of a decade of triumphant performances by Czech Noneta around the world, the leadership of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra , to which the ensemble was organizationally subordinate, decided to radically change the composition of the ensemble, according to the official website of Czech Nonet, due to political reasons [1 ] . After the dismissal of his five colleagues, Leichner also left their nonet - shortly before the fortieth anniversary of his work in it.
After this, Leichner founded a new collective - the Martinu Piano Quartet, in which he played until his death with his son and namesake, pianist Emil Leichner .
