The German Museum of the History of Medicine is located in Ingolstadt , Bavaria . It contains exhibits on the history of medicine from ancient times to the present day.

Museum Exposition

The museum contains items from Europe, China, as well as Egyptian antiquities. These are surgical instruments and devices used by dentists and ophthalmologists . Anatomical visual aids and skeletons are also presented, and methods for their preparation and conservation are being demonstrated. Here is the skeleton of Thomas Hasler ( 1851 - 1876 ) whose height was 2.35 meters and weight 155 kilograms, of the famous "Giant from Tegernsee ", listed in the Guinness Book of Records .

Museum Building and Park

Since 1973, the museum has been housed in the old building of the medical faculty of Ingolstadt University. The building was built in the years 1723-1736 by the architect Gabriel de Gabrieli. Since 1800, after the university moved to Landshut , and then to Munich, the buildings were used for household needs. In the second half of the 20th century, the building was restored and turned into a museum. There is also a pond and a small baroque park, where about 200 species of medicinal and aromatic plants are collected. The museum and the park are wheelchair accessible. There is a special department for blind visitors.
