The Kengir reservoir is one of the reservoirs of Kazakhstan , its length is 33 km, its width is 1.6 km.

The Kengir reservoir is located on the territory of the Ulytau district of the Karaganda region , the city of Zhezkazgan is located on its southern coast. The reservoir was established in 1952. Area - 37 km², volume - 0.319 km³. It carries out many years of flow regulation. Used for energy and irrigation .
The construction of the reservoir began in 1940, a year later it was suspended due to war, in 1946 it was resumed. The reservoir was built in 1952 and filled two years later. The design capacity of the reservoir was 120 million m³, after the start of construction it was increased to 173 million m³. The design level is 373 meters [1] .
