Competition Formula

The first 4 draws were held in one city according to the playoff system (two semi-finals and a final) with the participation of 4 teams. Since 1972, a circular system has been used at all stages of the tournament.

In 1951 and 1952, participants in the USSR Cup were the club teams of Moscow and Leningrad and the teams of the Union republics. In the remaining years, only club teams competed.
