The fourth generation BMW M3 was announced in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show (Switzerland, March 6-18, 2007) with a show of the BMW M3 concept car . As is the case with the E46 M3 and E60 M5 concepts, the M3 concept was practically a production model, which premiered at the same 2007 Frankfurt auto show (Germany, September 13-23). The Bavarian company released a lightweight version of the M3 GTS, the car was freed from all the "unnecessary", namely, from the multimedia complex, climate control , sophisticated, heavy sound insulation, rear seats and even air conditioning ; the color of the car is only bright orange. The price of the light version was $ 145,000. All cars instantly bought up .

Made on the basis of a ten-cylinder unit from the M5 engine has a volume of 4 liters. and develops 420l. with. at 8300 rpm Technically, it is not much different from the inline six-cylinder engine of the previous model: individual throttle valves and the system for changing the phases of the intake and exhaust valves are also used here. On the fourth-generation M3, in addition to a six-speed manual gearbox, there is also a 7-speed robotic box with two DCT clutches, reducing the acceleration time to 100 km / h by 0.2 from 4.8 s. - up to 4.6 s. The new generation M3 was shown at the 2014 North American Auto Show. [4] Sales in Europe began in March 2014, in Russia - in the summer of 2014 [5] . The F80 M3 will only be sold in a sedan, and the coupe and the convertible have been allocated to a separate BMW M4 model range. In 2015, a restyled version of the BMW M3 in the back of the F80 was introduced. [6]
The F80 M3 has been manufactured since 2014, exclusively at the BMW-Werk Regensburg plant.
In February 2018, BMW announced that the M3 F80 will no longer be sold in Europe from August 2018. The reason for this is the harmful particles of Euro-6 , that the vehicle engine cannot comply with the guidelines of the Euro 6d standard, which becomes mandatory on September 1, 2018 without an Otto particle filter (OPF). On the other hand, M4 receives a particle filter and, therefore, will continue to be produced for Europe after 2018. [7] The United States ceased production in May 2018 due to the introduction of emissions regulations from June 1, 2018, Germany will continue production.
Since 2018, produced a new version called the BMW M3 CS. It has lightweight body elements such as; bonnet cover made of carbon fiber composite (Carbon), weighing only 1.5 kilograms, wings, some interior elements and a new one, lightened by 12 kg. The robotic gearbox reduced the vehicle weight by 60 kg. [7]
