The surrender occurred after 18 days of fierce fighting against the overwhelming number of Japanese troops invading the territory [1] [2] . The occupation lasted for three years and eight months until the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II .

History
During World War II , December 8, 1941, the Japanese Empire attacked Hong Kong . The Hong Kong defense ended on December 25, 1941 with the defeat of the British and Canadian forces defending the colony. On August 15, 1945, the Japanese empire surrendered, and Britain regained sovereignty over Hong Kong .
