Previously called Paderno Fazolaro and was renamed in honor of the composer Amilcaré Ponchielli born here.

History
The commune was formed in 1928 , incorporating the cities of Ossolaro and Paderno Cremonaise [2] . In 1841, San Gervasio was annexed and in 1867 Aqualung Badona.
The commune was originally named Paderno Fazolaro ( Italian. Paderno Ossolaro ), the current name was adopted in 1950 in honor of the composer Amilcaré Ponchielli , who was born here in 1834. [3]
