Untsiker, Wolfgang

Wolfgang Unziker ( German: Wolfgang Unzicker ; June 26, 1925 , Pirmasens - April 20, 2006 , Albufeira ) - German chess player , grandmaster ( 1954 ). Champion of Germany ( 1948 ), East Germany and West Germany ( 1953 ; United Tournament), 5-time champion of West Germany ( 1950 , 1952 , 1959 , 1963 , 1965 - 1-2 place). In 1950-1970, he led the teams of Germany at the World Chess Olympiads , played for her at the European Team Championship. Member of the interzonal tournaments 1952 and 1955 .

June 25, 1961 at the 2nd European Team Championship in Oberhausen, having defeated world champion Mikhail Botvinnik , he becomes a member of the symbolic club Mikhail Chigorin .

Winner of international tournaments in Augsburg ( 1946 ), Heidelberg ( 1949 ), Travemunde (1950), Hastings ( 1950/1951 ), Lucerne (1951/1952), Krems and Maribor ( 1967 ).

Winner of other international competitions: Madrid ( 1957 ) - 2-3rd, Leningrad ( 1960 ; tournament of the Baltic countries) - 2nd, Sochi (1965) - 1-2nd, Santa Monica ( 1966 ) - 4-5 3rd, Ljubljana ( 1969 ) - 3rd, Hastings (1969/1970) - 2nd, Lugano (1970) - 3-4th, Kislovodsk ( 1972 ) and Berne ( 1987 ) - 4-6 places.
