In May 895, the king of the East Frankish kingdom, Arnulf of Carinthia, allocated his illegitimate son, Zwentibold Lorraine . The territory left to Zventibold was somewhat smaller than the former kingdom of Lothar II : part of the southern possessions went to Burgundy; perhaps Zventibold also did not own Frisia .
Initially, Zventibold, apparently, was independent [5] . Zwentybold appointed Rainier I of the Long Necked , Earl Enot , the largest and most influential representative of the nobility as his adviser.
In 895, Zventibold intervened in the struggle for the throne of the West Frankish kingdom between Ed Paris of Paris and Charles III the Rustic , but this attempt failed, as Ed and Karl united against him.
In 898, Zventibold quarreled with his adviser Rainier. In Lorraine, Zventibold had enemies from the very beginning - supporters of the illegitimate son of the late King Lothar II, Duke of Hugo of Alsace . And Rainier joined them, leading a major rebellion against the king. In addition, Rainier entered into an alliance with Karl Rustic, who at that time remained the only king in the Kingdom of West Frank. As a result, in one of the battles, Zventibold was killed in 900 . Regino Prumsky points out that Zventibold was killed on August 13, 900 near Mosam [3] , however, the date of death on August 13, 901 [6] is indicated in the obituary of the Prumy monastery. Zventibold was buried in Susterensky Abbey .
After the death of Zventibold, Loriginia was again annexed to the East Frankish kingdom, whose king was his half-brother Louis IV Child , having lost his independence.
