Nikolai Kakurin ( September 4, 1883 , Orel - July 29, 1936 , Moscow ) - Russian and Soviet military leader , "military expert", a prominent military journalist, historian and teacher.

Biography

Nikolai Evgenevich Kakurin was born in Orel in the family of an officer. He graduated from the Zhytomyr gymnasium, Mikhailovsky Artillery School ( 1904) and the Academy of the General Staff (1910). He served in infantry and cavalry units, in 1910-1912 he commanded a company.

World War I

In 1914 he served in the Kiev Military District, holding the position of chief officer for assignments at the headquarters of the 10th Army Corps. At the beginning of 1915 - the senior adjutant of the headquarters of the 5th infantry division, captain of the general staff. Subsequently, the chief of staff of the subordinate 71st infantry division and the 3rd Trans-Baikal Cossack Brigade. With the rank of lieutenant colonel seniority from December 6, 1912 [1] . In 1917, with the rank of colonel, he took command of the 7th Caucasian Infantry Regiment.

Civil War

Voluntarily transferred to the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic (engaged in the organization of the army). In June 1918, he was appointed Assistant Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian State . He served in the Ukrainian Galician Army .

In February 1920, he joined the Red Army . During the Soviet-Polish war of 1920, he was chief of staff of the Tambov rifle division, acting commander of the 4th army , commander of the 3rd army and assistant commander of the Western front. In 1921 , being the chief of staff of the Tambov Group of Forces, at the same time commanded a consolidated cavalry group that took part in the defeat of the Antonovshchina . In particular, as the chief of staff, he signed a well-known order No. 0116 of June 12, 1921 on the use of toxic substances against insurgents hiding in the forest.

The civil war Nikolai Evgenievich ended in Central Asia . In March — September 1922 - commander of the troops of the Bukhara-Fergana region, participated in the elimination of the Basmachi gangs.

Literary and teaching activities

In 1922 - 1924 - in teaching at the Military Academy of the Red Army. He held the post of head of the Civil War History Department at the Headquarters of the Red Army. He worked in the Military Scientific Department of the Office for the Study and Use of War Experience of the Red Army Headquarters. In 1925 - 1930 - in the Military Academy named after MV Frunze.

Author of about 30 works on strategy, operational art and tactics of the Civil War, training and education of troops.

One of the initiators of the creation and author of the three-volume history of the Civil War (published in 1928 - 1930 ). Since 1930 - retired.

Arrested by NKVD . He died in prison at the end of July 1936 .
