Sulfonate group
Sulfonates are salts or esters of sulfonic acids of the general formula R SO 2 O - M + and R SO 2 O R 1, respectively, where R , R 1 is an organic radical , M + is a cation.
Sulfonates are weak bases and good leaving groups in type Sn1, Sn2, E1 and E2 reactions.

Application
Calcium sulfonate is an increasingly popular thickener for greases : greases based on it combine high extreme pressure properties with inertness and insolubility in water, are able to restore their properties when water is removed from their composition (for example, during heating), are relatively inexpensive.
