Hi hat

Hi-hat ( English Hi-hat ) - a type of cymbals with a rack, used in the drum kit for most styles of popular music . A hi-hat consists of two plates, “top” and “bottom”. The plate "top" is on top, translated from English means "top". The plate “bottom” is located below, translated from English means “bottom”. Hi-hat “top” and “bottom” are easy to distinguish even if the name is erased. “Top” Lighter, thinner and higher sound. The plates in assembled form are directed bottom to each other. The bottom plate is simply turned over and mounted on the rod. The “top” plate is held differently, namely it is clamped with a special drum “lock” which is put on the rod and clamped on it, as if hanging in the air. Due to this, when you press the pedal, the plates are connected to form a sound. The rod passes through the hollow tube of the rack and is attached to the pedal that controls the movement of the plates. When you press the pedal, the top plate is pressed to the bottom (“closed hat”). When the pedal is released, the plate returns to its initial position (“open hat”). The force required to depress the pedal and the speed are regulated by a spring. The hi-hat was invented by drummer Vic Burton and designed by Kaiser Marshall in the 2nd half of the 1920s.

Hi hat

On hi-hat they play with drumsticks , brushes , and ruts . At the same time, the plates open and close the pedal, thereby changing the sound. Sound also occurs when plates hit each other.

Hi-Hat Variations

  • X-hat - hat fixed in one position (open, closed, half-open). Used when the legs are busy, such as on the pedals of a bass drum.
  • Triple hi-hat - hat with 3 plates. When playing, the upper and lower move simultaneously, while the middle one remains in place.
  • Electronic hi-hat - a device that simulates the game on a real hi-hat. Made of plastic (rubber) with mounted sensors.
