Jaiku is a free microblogging service. It began its work in February 2006 in beta status, in the fall of 2007 the startup was purchased by Google Inc. [1] [2] .

Later, the corporation transferred the project to Google App Engine and opened the source code of the site [3] [4] .
On October 14, 2011, Google announced the planned closure of the Jaiku service on January 15, 2012. [5] And on November 29, a group of former users of the service created Jaikuarchive.com - The Jaiku Presence archiver [6] "to preserve an important part of our digital heritage."
