The great Ayatollah Sayyid Hassan Shirazi (1937-1980) is a Shiite theologian, philosopher and public figure. Born in Nejef in 1937. From an early age he combined religious and political activities, supporting the national liberation and revolutionary movements in Muslim countries. He wrote over eighty volumes of books and founded many organizations and centers, including the Al-Zeinbaya Havza ( Damascus ). He was killed by Iraqi intelligence in 1980 in Beirut ( Lebanon ).
