The film is based on the biographical book of Lennon 's half-sister Julia Baird “ Imagine - I grew up with John Lennon ” ( Eng. Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon ).

John Lennon is played by Aaron Johnson , and Paul McCartney is played by Thomas Sangster .

Story
The film takes place in 1955 - John's uncle, George Smith, dies. From the age of five, John lives with his conservative aunt Mimi, who educates him as his own son. The impulsive mother Julia left him in early childhood. 15-year-old Lennon talks with both of them, and they, in turn, are trying to win his love. A calm aunt monitors his studies, protects from the dangers of life, and the newfound mother, on the contrary, wants to introduce John to adulthood.
Lennon is a middle-class student, disorderly, caring for girls. Torn apart by family conflicts, he masters the guitar and begins to write music, later he founded the group with Paul McCartney (Thomas Sangster) and George Harrison (Sam Bell).

At the 63rd BAFTA Award Ceremony, the film was nominated for awards in the categories of "Best Film", "Award for Best Debut of a British Scriptwriter, Director or Producer", "Best British Film", and for the award for "Best Supporting Role" Kristin Scott Thomas and Ann-Marie Duff fought among themselves. The latter was recognized as the best performer of a secondary role according to the British Independent Film Awards. The film did not collect any awards for awards.

- The title of the Nowhere Boy movie is a reference to The Beatles' Nowhere Man . Also, several times throughout the film, John is told the phrase “You're going nowhere” ( Eng. “You're going nowhere” ).
- Paul McCartney is left - handed , because of this, Thomas Sangster had to practically relearn to play the guitar [2] .
