Union of Artists

The St. Petersburg Union of Artists dates back to August 2, 1932, when the Leningrad branch of the Union of Soviet Artists (LOSSH) was formed at a general meeting of artists of Leningrad. Its creation was accelerated by the decision of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks “On the restructuring of literary and artistic organizations” [1] adopted in the spring of 1932, which, in particular, provided for the dissolution of existing literary and artistic organizations and groups and the formation of unified creative unions. In 1943-1959, the Union was called the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists ( LSSH ). From 1959 to 1968, after joining the established Union of Artists of the RSFSR, it was called the Leningrad Branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, and from 1968 to 1989, it was called the Leningrad Organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR ( LOSH ). After the adoption on March 16, 1989 by the All-Union Conference of the Union of Artists of the USSR of the Charter of the Union of Artists of the USSR - "Leningrad Union of Artists" ( LSS ). After renaming the city, it became known as the St. Petersburg Union of Artists ( SPbSKH ).

The Union of Artists has largely preserved the traditions of the main “donor organizations”: the Union of Russian Artists , the Society for the Encouragement of Arts (since 1932 the Board of St. Petersburg Union of Artists and its Exhibition Center has been located in the building that once belonged to this society), the A. Kuindzhi Society of Artists and others. All these years, the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Union of Artists has been and is one of the most powerful creative organizations of Russian artists. SPbSH is a collective member of the International Confederation of Artists' Union , officially being one of the assignees of the " Union of Artists of the USSR ".
