Story

On a spaceship they receive a signal for help from an unknown planet. The ship goes to the rescue, but when the ship arrives, changes occur with the entire crew. They begin to attack each other, and several people die. The dead are buried on the planet, and the survivors explore the planet: they do not find anyone who could give a signal for help, but notice flickering lights in the distance. After some time, the dead wake up and begin to attack the living.

Later it turns out that the inhabitants of the planet are incorporeal and they need a foreign body in order to survive. The crew decides to destroy their ship so that strangers could not move into one of the crew. But the invaders managed to interfere. At the end of the film, they fly to Earth.

Impact

Despite the rather restrained assessments of critics and viewers noting the lethargy of the action, this film, like some other works and individual visual decisions by Mario Bava, had an impact in the cinema. After the American blockbuster “ Alien ” was released in 1979, the press drew attention to the plot parallels of the new film with “The Planet of Vampires” [2] . Screenwriter Dan O'Bannon and director Ridley Scott denied their acquaintance with the work of Mario Bava. Parallels with The Planet of the Vampires were also indicated after the release of Scott's film Prometheus in 2012 [3] .
