Best known as a player on the Toronto Maple Leafs ( NHL ) team. In 1996 he was included in the NHL Hall of Fame . One of the six hockey players included in the symbolic team of the IIHF century [1] .

Career
Early years
Salming began his hockey career with the Kiruna AIF youth team. In 1970, he began playing for the club of the Swedish elite series Brunes , in which he won the championships of 1971 and 1972. In 1972 and 1973, as part of the Swedish national team, Salming took part in the world hockey championships (where the national team took third and second places, respectively).
NHL Career
May 12, 1973 [2] Salming transferred to the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs team, in which he spent the next 16 seasons. In the debut season of 1973/74, Salming scored 39 points, was recognized as the best rookie of the year by his team and the third among the best NHL rookies. Over the years of playing in the NHL, Salming played 1148 games in the regular championships, gaining 787 points (goal + pass), in the playoffs he played 81 games and scored 49 points [3] . On January 4, 1988, Salming became the first European hockey player to play a thousand matches in the NHL [2] .
