Gameplay

Unlike other games in the series, Halo Wars is a strategy. Races and troops, for the most part, are gleaned from previous games, but new types of equipment have also been added. Since the game was created specifically for the "Xbox 360", the players should not have problems with the management.

The game has two sides: people (K.K.O.N.) and covenants. Players have the opportunity to choose the leader of their troops. People have leaders: Captain Cutter, Sergeant Forge, and Professor Anders. Covenants have leaders: the Prophet of Sorrow, the Arbiter and the Leader of the Bugs. Each leader has special abilities and unique troops. For example, Captain Cutter has access to the “Spirit of Fire” magneto-accelerating gun (M.U.O.), which inflicts massive damage anywhere in the battlefield. The prophet of sorrow can cause a salvo of a ship’s beam gun in orbit with a similar effect, although it itself should be near the target. It should be mentioned that the leaders of K.K.O.N. usually aboard the ship (other than the campaign), while Covenant leaders always participate directly in battle.

Covenant troops are mainly dependent on more advanced technologies and more soldiers. The UNSC has access to fewer soldiers and less advanced technologies, but human troops are more universal. For example, the KCON paratroopers are anti-personnel troops, but can also use fragmentation grenades and anti-tank missiles. Bases and some Covenant troops have access to energy shields .

The base building system resembles The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth . There are several points on the map where players can build the center of the base. Each base has a certain number of cells for additional buildings. For advancement on technological levels, K.K.O.N. builds reactors, while Covenant builds a single temple and studies eras. The Covenant has two types of buildings that do not exist in the UNSC: power shield generators to protect the base and teleportators for instant delivery of troops to the leader. Each base (except the very initial one) can build four turrets for defense. These turrets can then be specialized to defeat one of the three types of troops. For example, K.K.O.N. builds flamethrower turrets for the destruction of infantry, rail - for armored vehicles and missile - for aviation.

Like many other strategies, the ratio of types of troops in “Halo Wars” adheres to the “ stone-paper-scissors ” system: infantry is vulnerable to armored vehicles, armored vehicles are vulnerable to aviation, and aviation is vulnerable to infantry. The exception is the "Vulture" K.K.O.N. and the Scarab of the Covenant.

Story

The game takes place 20 years before the events of " Halo: Combat Evolved ". The campaign follows the human ship "Spirit of Fire", which was sent by the United Nations Space Command (KKOON) to investigate and suppress the actions of the Covenant on the former human planet Harvest (the place of first contact with aliens). Having learned about the mysterious excavations of covenants led by an unknown Arbiter, ship captain James Cutter sends his soldiers to find out what is happening. As the plot progresses, the player moves through several worlds and, in the end, stumbles upon the Forerunner. Unfortunately, although the Forerunners have their own unique troops (only aviation), they are not a playable fraction and can only be used in the "battle" mode, where they become available when capturing special buildings.

Flood

Intelligent life form using the parasitic method of existence. Small, but multiple creatures, use small tentacles and a kind of sting to infect the nervous system of enemies. After infection, the victims slowly become the "battle forms" of the flood. In the universe of the game, Halo Flood always uses numerical superiority and surprise. The flood is able to learn and learn more and more with each killed enemy, absorbing all of its memory.

It is known that the only person who could resist the infection by being infected is Private Jenkins from Halo: Combat Evolved. Although he became outwardly one of the "battle forms" of the Flood, his mind could temporarily regain control of the body. This is described in more detail in the book "Halo: The Flood", which tells about the events of the first video game.

Forerunners

It was a great race of humanoid creatures. It is known that they existed for millions of years and have come a long way towards being considered a high-level galactic civilization. Having achieved unprecedented technological advances. The forerunners kept their world in harmony and purity. Their fate was a foregone conclusion on the same day, when the Flood suddenly appeared. An alien infectious life form has destroyed almost everything that the Forerunners created for centuries. Courage and dedication did not help to destroy the invaders, no matter what weapon they used. Realizing that defeat was inevitable, the Forerunners built a weapon of great power, which was supposed to destroy the enemy and all his food. This weapon became the “Halo,” scattered throughout the galaxy, in the end, it destroyed all life, along with the Forerunners themselves. However, these sentient beings took care of all living things and reliably preserved DNA samples and some living specimens in a secure vault, from where life will be scattered again. The technology of the forerunner was partially used by the Covenants. People for a long time did not know about them.
