Saxony -type frigates (type F124, German Sachsen-Klasse ) - a type of frigate of the German naval forces. The project was developed in the 1990s by German shipbuilding companies: Blohm + Voss and ThyssenKrupp . The decision on the development and construction of four frigates URO project 124 was made in 1996 . Saxony F124-type frigates replaced the obsolete Lutiens-type destroyers and will continue to be used as flagships. In basic dimensions, the frigate is more like a destroyer (destroyer). The lead ship of the F219 Sachsen series was launched in 2001, the second frigate of the series, F220 Hamburg, was launched in 2002 , and the F221 Hessen in 2003 . As of October 2008, all three ships are part of the German Navy , the option for the fourth frigate F222 Thüringen is canceled.

Construction
Project F123 Brandenburg was taken as a prototype, but with the use of Stealth technology and a change in the composition of electronic weapons. The project was developed on the basis of the MEKO concept. The hull and settings of the ship are steel, divided into 8 compartments, active pitching dampers are installed. Gas turbines are installed in a separate soundproofing module.
Armament
The armament and equipment of the ship are controlled by an automated combat control system of the Thales SEWACO-FD type. ACBU includes 17 computerized workstations, 11 interface modules, two large information displays, two modules for storing (recording) incoming information, a satellite communications console, two OP-SW-CDS workstations. The exchange of information between the BIOS of other ships and coastal facilities is carried out according to NATO standards Link 11 and Link 16 . In the future, it is planned to upgrade the ASBU to work according to the Link 22 standard. According to the manufacturer, the SMART-L early warning radar can track up to 1000 targets simultaneously, while the APAR targeting and targeting radar tracks up to 200 targets with the ability to fire at 30 targets. The capabilities of ASBU are somewhat more modest, the system allows you to simultaneously fire at 16 air targets while tracking two surface and two underwater targets. The navigation system includes two terminals of the NAVSAT satellite navigation system, two inertial navigation systems MINS and a system for receiving weather forecasts from satellites. Ships carry two NH90 PLO helicopters . For landing helicopters in stormy weather, ships are equipped with special landing systems.
