Feat
According to the official version, on February 29, 1980 , enemy groups tried to penetrate the location of Soviet troops. The unit of senior sergeant Nikolai Chepik, deputy commander of a sapper platoon , during the Kunar operation received an order to undermine the enemy’s ammunition depot located in the cave. Returning after the successful completion of the assignment, a group of sappers, consisting of N. Chepik and Private Guard Alexander Rassokhin and Kerim Karimov, were ambushed .
The enemy was significantly superior in numbers. During the shootout, Nikolai was injured in the leg. After the death of his comrades, so as not to fall into the hands of the enemy alive, Nikolai tied a fragmentation mine of directed action MON-100 to a tree and detonated it, aimed it at the enemy, hitting about 30 souls .
A slightly different version was presented in 2012 by Pavel Agafonov, commander of the engineer-sapper platoon 317 RAP, in which Nikolai Chepik served:
| ... Only one platoon and three of my sappers headed by Nikolai Chepik advanced to the intended line of attack. So they took an unequal battle. And there was no one to help them ... ... My three sappers were found together, Chepik had a broken leg, and he was killed in the head. They were on the edge, on the right flank. It was evident that they fought to the last. They were supposed to go on the road and install two MON-100 mines there. But they did not reach the road. And when I began to write the prize for Hero, naturally, it was necessary to write something unusual. That's when I wrote that he blew himself up with a mine. This later became the official version ... But no one saw how they [Chepik and A. G. Mironenko ] actually died. I still tell everyone, talking about Chepik, that it’s impossible to reproach this little deception. Not every day representations on heroes are written. [one] |
