FTAM (File Transfer Access and Management) is an ISO 8571 standard , the OSI application layer protocol for transferring, accessing and managing files (FTAM) is a file transfer service. In addition to classic file transfer, for which FTAM provides numerous options, FTAM also provides means for accessing distributed files in the same way that Novell, Inc. NetWare does . or Network File System (NFS) of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
FTAM tried to combine the other two into one protocol - the file transfer protocol, familiar to the Internet FTP , as well as remote access to open files, familiar to NFS . RFC 1415 provides the FTP-FTAM gateway specification.
FTAM was not widely distributed on the Internet and there were attempts to distribute a file transfer protocol on the Internet as models based on SMB , NFS and Andrew File System .
