Biography
Nomura was born in Koti Prefecture ( Shikoku Island). In his youth, he worked in a vocational school, painted images for informational announcements.
In early 1990, he was hired by Square (now Square Enix ), where he immediately set about debugging Final Fantasy IV and creating monsters for Final Fantasy V. A little later, he was entrusted with the design of secondary characters in Final Fantasy VI . The dawn of Nomura’s career can be considered 1995, when he was appointed as the chief character designer for Final Fantasy VII . Having replaced the traditional artist of all previous parts of the Yoshitaku Amano series at this post, Nomura completely changed the artistic style and appearance of the characters. The game received many positive reviews and was a stunning commercial success, becoming one of the best games ever created for the PlayStation . [2] In the next game of the series, Final Fantasy VIII , Nomura again acted as the main character designer, and again his work was appreciated, which allowed the artist to finally gain a foothold in the company. After the advent of the console, PlayStation 2 created characters for three more games of the main line: Final Fantasy X , Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XI .
In addition to the main series, Nomura also participated in other Square Enix projects. For example, in 1998, he worked on such famous games as Parasite Eve and Brave Fencer Musashi . He had a hand in the character design of Ehrgeiz games (a fighting game in the PS1 version of which the characters of the seventh part of Final Fantasy were present) and The World Ends with You (a game for the Nintendo DS handheld console). Nomura acted as director and character designer in the Kingdom Hearts series: in the first Kingdom Hearts game, in the sequel for the Pocket Boy Game console Advance Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and in the sequel for the PlayStation 2 Kingdom Hearts II .
Nomura had to work in the cinema, he redrawn the characters of the seventh part of the "last fantasy" for the film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children , created on the basis of CGI animation. In addition to conceptual drawings, he also composed some texts for the soundtrack .
Nomura worked on compilation projects for Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII . In all four games, he is the main character designer, and in Final Fantasy XV he was still the director until the development of the game was transferred to Hajima Tabata.
